Zeeland to Lucerne(or should it be Luzern)

Well this includes a few days of information. Saturday was the big day to get packing for the trip… trying to decide what to bring and what suitcase is always a challenge. The good news is we did manage to get everything packed. (Including two bicycle helmets and gloves) We did find that somehow half of our electric adapters stayed home…Not sure exactly how that happened. We also have learned today that French plugs do not work in Switzerland… So tomorrow we need to find some Swiss adapters.

Sunday was head to the airport and fly to Chicago first and from there to Zurich… Thanks to Denise for bring us to GR airport.

Still seems funny that the fastest way from point a to b is not a straight line…?

Coming in to Zurich the Sun had just come up and there was fog in several of the valleys.

As has been the experience in the past the night is quite short and not much sleep… So the effort today was to stay awake as we finished our travels. After arrival in Zurich we had to wait for some time for our train to Lucerne.  We did find a Starbucks by the airport train station and spent over an hour there. While it is a Starbucks there is no brewed coffee like in the states. Still we had a good cup of Kaffee Americano.

Lucerne is an old city dating back to around 900. It lies on the shores of Lake Lucerne and the river Reuss outflow from the lake. Lucerne is in the area of Switzerland that speaks German…(Depending on where you are the spoken language is either Italian, French or German) Despite my very poor German it seems everyone speaks English.

This afternoon we spent some time dong a bit of walking around town. We were surprised to see palm trees by this hotel. I realize we are in mid to slightly southern Europe but I had no idea that they would have palm trees here. Tomorrow more history of Lucerne and maybe some Swiss Chocolate.
